I try never to do the work for a client. It’s a key part of the distinction between consultancy and coaching. I always say that you, the coachee, run the race, you kick the ball, you throw the javelin. I, as your coach, can help you to do each of those things better in the sense of knowing first of all what the opposition are doing and what tactics we need to adopt.

Equally, I help identify what it is that you’re doing in your personal performance which enables you to do it better. So, coaching very often is a question of expanding, enlarging, developing your personal bests.

How can I improve your personal best if I do it for you? It just doesn’t work. That’s not what it’s about. It’s about you becoming a better business person in order to be able to run a bigger, better, more profitable, more effective business which fulfills the needs of your customers to the very best advantage.
